Today was Groundhog Day so we incorporated a few festive activities into the mix. I didn’t pre-plan, so these were simple, free things we found on Pinterest this morning. First, we watched a Youtube video on the history of Groundhog Day. Then we watched the official “Punxsutawney Phil” streaming event. The kids were bummed that Phil saw his shadow. None of us want six more weeks of winter around here!
Finn kept busy with Bingo Dauper pages — we have the Do-A-Dot-Art markers and he LOVED making the dots on the corresponding circles. He was occupied for a majority of our school time, which is always a big win. I’ll be incorporating many more of these soon.
Liam kicked off with a word search — burrow, Candlemas Day, shadow etc. and created a book “It’s Groundhog Time” which synced perfectly with our math lesson (learning to tell time to the half hours).
One of my homeschooling goals is to be more proficient at planning enrichment activities. Today was a great example of a simple approach that didn’t take much time or effort to pull together–but resulted in a lot of extra fun and excitement for the kids.
